Burr Fourth Graders Climb Lighthouse!
Amy Billet and Jackie Heiman’s fourth-grade class at Burr had an amazing trip to the Fire Island Lighthouse on Wednesday.
The students learned so many facts about the 166-year-old lighthouse, which measures 168 feet tall. (They climbed it!)
The color scheme and light blinking every 7.5 seconds is specific to the Fire Island Lighthouse, so mariners could distinguish it from other lighthouses on their journey.
The class also learned about Fire Island being a barrier island and saw remnants of a more than 200-year-old shipwreck!
